I am getting a minivan and finally came down to decision based on which one looks better in the mentioned colors..since i feel both are pretty close and having tough time, i thought taking a general opinion on what you think..please let me know which one you would buy excluding all other factors. 2005 Honda Odyssey - Rattling/screeching Noise, And Vibration When Travelling Or At A Stop?
Hey guys, hopefully i can get these problems resolved. they 're driving me up the wall (no pun intended).first off, my van is a 2005 honda odyssey. we do all regular maintenance on it as scheduled. it has about 112,000 km on it, so pretty low mileage. the only things that failed on it were the wheel bearings (replaced under warranty) and the power steering pump (also replaced under warranty, with less than a week left. close call!).so, this rattling/ screeching noise is loud! i could be traveling between 20-60 km/ h and if i 'm on the gas pedal accelerating (often between 1500-2500 rpm), the noise comes. you can hear it from a block away, and it 's embarrassing to drive in it when people turn their heads.. if i 'm in idle, or in neutral hitting the gas, you can 't hear it. it 's almost like it has a metallic sound to it, sounds like a bearing or something seized.when we first confronted our mechanic, he said it was the heat shield. he replaced it. sound was gone for a few days. then, what do you know, came back!although, i heard there are two heat shields on my model of odyssey. one in front of the car near the engine, and one on or near the catalytic converter.car drives like it usually does, hasn 't blown up....yet.second issue:has to do with the transmission! oh boy...first, when i 'm going at speeds of 50-80 km/ h, and if i let go of the gas a bit and let the rpm drop to just above 1000 rpm, the van vibrates a ton. i can feel it along the steering wheel and through the front of the car. it 's gotten worse over time, and it 's pissing me off.don 't know of this would be related, but if the engine has been sitting for more than 2 hours (enough to cool it off), and i start and go, everything is fine, but when i come to a stop at a light or whatever, the car vibrates until i go again. the rpm is around 1000 since the engine is still warming up. once it 's at operating temps, it doesn 't happen again at a stop.people are saying this is a common problem, and that it is the torque converter causing this problem, which i heard is very expensive to replace.. *gulp*another related thing to transmission while i 'm at it. when i 'm shifting into gear, it clunks. you can hear it shifting to the point you wonder whether there is any transmission fluid left in the car! (maybe that 's being over dramatic, but it 's louder than my 2003 gmc sierra, which isn 't that loud to begin with. oh, and there is transmission fluid, it was kind of dark outside so i couldn 't check the condition of it.)in summary:screeching/ rattling noise: heat shield possibly.transmission vibration: possibly the torque converter?shifting into gear, it clunks: transmission wearing? it 's been like this for the longest time, so i 'm not sure..so if you guys can help me, it 'd be appreciated! i don 't want something failing on me when i 'm out on the highway.oh, don 't tell me to go to the honda dealer! i don 't have warranty so i 'm not going back there since i 'll regret it... i 'm looking for suggestions before i take it to my mechanic.i will check up on the transmission fluid tomorrow when it 's light outside, and update with the results. thanks for the reply.if anybody can chip in on the other issue (rattling/ screeching), that would be awesome too. I changed the air filter and cleaned the egr valve and put new gasgets. no when he starts the car the engine noise is like nrrwnwnw... nrwwnwnwn......nwrrnnwnw...nwnrnrnnr.... the capitals means its loud and lower case means its quiet. also its making a hisssing sound in the background. we tightened pipes and move them a little to see if it works. my dad moved one of the pipies and it changed noises doing the thig i mentioned before faster. the coolant level is not empty. please help (Read answers)
